ABOUT
Pixel Media: A video game to develop media literacy
Amid Europe’s diverse political and economic contexts and the rapid rise of digital technologies, media literacy is key to safeguarding democracy.
Yet, young individuals often feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information, struggling to verify its accuracy and navigate our complex digital world responsibly.
Traditional educational tools are often ineffective in engaging the digital generation who spend much of their time online and face unexpected challenges.

As media shape how we think, communicate, and behave in society, it is of paramount importance to integrate effective media literacy education. However, existing resources often fail to reach young learners because they lack engagement and do not address the complexities of media in a holistic way.
The Pixel Media project harnesses the immersive and interactive power of games to enhance media literacy education. This initiative enables youngsters to develop a critical understanding of media while empowering educators with effective tools to teach it. Through a game-based approach, the project promotes media pluralism, accuracy, and civic participation.
Pixel Media combines a narrative-driven game and educational contents to create an engaging learning environment that addresses real-world media literacy matters. This approach not only makes learning about media literacy more engaging but also ensures that the skills acquired are directly applicable and understandable in different cultural contexts.
The project will produce a comprehensive package of resources, including an immersive video game, a media literacy content library, an activity manual, training workshops, and conferences to help both educators and young people better understand and engage with media literacy.

All the project outputs, including the game and teaching materials, will be tested by educators and learners (aged 16-30) across Europe to ensure their quality, effectiveness and relevance. The results of these tests will be used to refine the resources, ensuring that they meet the educational needs of our stakeholders.
